The Beatles - Inner light (performed by Jeff Lynne and Anoushka Shankar)

Video Description:
Harrison's song from the Concert for George.
"The Inner Light" is a song written by George Harrison that was first released by The Beatles as a B-side to "Lady Madonna". It was the first ever Harrison composition to be featured on a Beatles single. The lyrics are a rendering of Chapter 47 in the Laozi's Dao De Jing, the foundational book of Daoism. It is also available on the Beatles' compilation albums Rarities and Past Masters, Volume Two.
The Beatles' recording of this song features lead vocals from Harrison and brief backing vocals from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The instrumental track was recorded in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, during the sessions for Harrison's Wonderwall Music (a soundtrack album), during January 1968.
Without going out of my door,
I can know all things on earth
without looking out of my window,
I can know the ways of heaven.
The farther one travels
the less one knows
the less one really knows.
Without going out of your door,
You can know all things on earth
without looking out of your window,
you can know the ways of heaven.
The farther one travels
the less one knows
the less one really knows.
Arrive without travelling,
See all without looking,
Do all without doing.

What a gem this song is! Everyone must get The Beatles' 'Past Masters, Vol. 2' if you don't already enjoy owning it.

I'm not spiritual enough to even try to play a sitar, but I have a bozouki I've tuned gdgd and it sounds pretty good - now all I have to do is try to get this one in my brain. Interestingly it fits well though it is taking much work. The original is in a differant key. Has anyone covered it well enough to do it justice (other than these good people?) BTW I recommend the book 'Revolution in the Head' which disects every Beatles song, although not always kindly I have to admit.

Ah lovely Jeff. He sings this beautifully and he must have been heartbroken at the time from losing his friend. They all do a good job on this though.

Had the privilege of hearing two great musicians whilst dining in Gaylord's Indian Restaurant in Melbourne's CBD in 2004, one on the drums the other on the sitar.
A magnificent instrument, and played by the lovely Anoushka Shankar to boot.

Mr. Jeff Lynne is considered "the fifth Beatle." He took much inspiration for his band ELO from the song The Walrus.

Jeff Lynne is so unbelievably underrated. He has written and produced for so many besides himself and ELO - an absolutely prolific song writer. I was just watching "Learning to Fly" performed by Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers. Those morons over there have no clue that Jeff co-wrote and produced that song. It is by far Tom Petty's best song, mostly because it sounds like ELO and nothing like the rest of Petty's material! Jeff's rythm guitar sound in that song is unmistakable!

I agree with his influence on the Tom Petty songs, although I thought "Free Falling" the better one,and think "The Waiting" the best song he has done. Each to there own!.As for being underated,Jeff is a multi-millionare while we, perhaps, are not.His talent and sucess has made him rich. You can't feel sorry for him!.there are many people who bought and loved ELO's music when it was made, and I suspect almost as many since their "hey day".
Jeff has a definite place in music history.

It's actually more similar to an oboe than a trumpet, since it's blown and has a multi-reed.

"Full Moon Fever" is an excellent album! It's kind of ironic because I love the Heartbreakers, but I think that Tom Petty solo album is my favorite. And Jeff Lynne does an excellent job as a producer, but that drum track gets a bit monotonous to me.
